There just may be as many different smells to experience in Aedes de Venustas as in all of Manhattan. The enchanted, forest-themed space is host to dozens of fragrances for women, men and the home, coming from perfumers around the world. Most of come small European perfumeries, with exotic names American consumers have nary heard. Samples are plentiful in the store, making for some fun browsing.

After visiting Aedes de Venustas stop by The Stonewall Inn, home to a defining moment in history for the gay rights movement, and see where it all began just a few doors down.  The Stonewall riots were a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn, in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. They are frequently cited as the first instance in American history when people in the homosexual community fought back against a government-sponsored system that persecuted sexual minorities, and they have become the defining event that marked the start of the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world.
